This collection contains bulletins, promotional materials, sales manuals, marketing information, newspaper clippings, and photographs. Series 1, Sales Force Information and Printed Materials, is composed of information and printed material distributed to Rath's sales force. A large part of this series consists of "bulletins," which includes correspondence, printed materials, policies and procedures, sales incentives, sales promotions, sales statistics, displays, and ad art. There are also 57 still photographs (black and white) of sales promotions. The second series, Clippings, contains newspaper advertisements and ad art for Rath products and the products of competitors, as well as news articles about Rath's 50th anniversary in 1941. The third series, Photographs, contains images of the Waterloo Meat Animal Show and Livestock Institute, Rath packing plant operations, and livestock. There are approximately 1,894 photographs in this series.

George John Rath (b. 1821) was a merchant based in Dubuque, Iowa. He eventually expanded into a pork packing operation, and in 1891, his son E.R. Rath and cousin, John W. Rath, opened the Rath Packing Company in Waterloo, Iowa. The company focused on hogs, beef, and lamb, and thrived throughout the early 20th century.
